What is your "why"? Why do you do what you do?
I grew up on jobsites - heck, I probably learned to walk on them. My uncle built high-end homes, my dad and another uncle framed for him, and my mom handled job site cleanup when she wasn't working her accounting job. Construction has always been in my blood, and stepping into construction finance felt natural. I understand the language—both the industry terms and, yes, the colorful dialect!
Over the years, I explored other industries, but always found my way back to construction. Eventually, I realized this is where I truly belong. I even tried my hand at co-owning an electrical trade business, having always dreamed of owning a construction company. But I quickly learned that being in business with family isn't always the best recipe. I also knew I didn't want to work for another company, so I decided to combine what I do best and a love for construction into a business of my own.
I've always had a knack for breaking down complex financial information in a way that makes sense to non-financial folks. Whether helping project managers understand their reports, guiding owners through financial statements, explaining cost codes to field crews, or training admin and accounting staff in construction finance—I love seeing those "AHA" moments. That moment when something clicks, and suddenly, they're armed with the knowledge that allows them to excel in their jobs or make better data-driven decisions for their business.
Contractors and tradespeople are doing what they do best—their superpower—building. My superpower is finance. My passion is helping them structure their finances and operations in a way that works for them, creating strong foundations, integrating the right people and resources, and empowering them to make confident financial decisions.
Another part of my 'why' is being in the driver's seat—building my road to financial freedom. I've always worked hard, whether for someone else or myself, but I want to be in control of when and how I work. More than anything, my biggest 'why' is my family. Owning my business gives me the flexibility to be present for them while doing what I love. And as a bonus, I get to work from our 5th wheel if I want and schedule a "kayaking" meeting in my day!
